Families Don't have to Match
Transracial adoption is a beautiful way to grow a family. If you choose to grow your family with transracial adoption, we encourage you to do lots of research on how to involve your child in their culture. There are several books we recommend you read. One of our favorites is: In Their Voices: Black Americans on Transracial Adoption by Rhonda Roorda (adult transracial adoptee). This book has a great variety of interviews from the adoptee's perspective on growing up in a transracial family. Two other books we recommend are: I'm Chocolate, You're Vanilla: Raising Healthy Black and Biracial Children in a Race, Book by Marguerite A. Wright and White Parents, Black Children: Experiencing Transracial Adoption Book by Cardell Jacobson and Darron Smith. Not only do we recommend reading these books but we feel you need education on adoption in general. Every adoption story is different and it's great to see all the perspectives you can. Always keep in mind that your story will not look like anyone elses. The more we know the better we can handle difficult situations. I will also attach a sweet story link here: "love what matters"
